Rocket Lawyer Prices the Agent Seat at $125, Platform Attached

Credit Where It Is Owed

Rocket Lawyer holds the agent seat at $125 a year and does not move that number across its membership tiers. No promotional first year, no step up in the second. Teaser pricing is close to the default setting in this industry, so holding one rate everywhere counts as discipline, and it deserves saying before anything critical.

The platform behind the fee is also real. Document assembly, a template library, attorney consultations: it is a subscription legal service, and the agent product is one item inside a much larger catalog rather than the reason the catalog exists. An owner who pulls three or four contracts out of it a year is getting sensible value, and the address line rides along at no extra charge.

Whether the Catalog Is Something You Wanted

What West Virginia asks for is not large. An address inside the state, a person present during working hours, and papers moved along instead of stacked on a shelf. There is no premium tier of that requirement, no version a bigger subscription unlocks, and no examination anybody has to pass.

The state is even softer than that in one respect worth knowing. West Virginia's LLC statute uses permissive language about keeping an agent, and a company that keeps none has service delivered to the Secretary of State, who is authorized by law to receive it on the company's behalf. That is not a loophole and it is not free of consequences: papers landing in a state office still have to travel to whatever address the state holds for you, publicly and on nobody's schedule but the government's. What a private agent sells is control over that route, plus the privacy of our address in place of yours.

So the honest test here is a usage question rather than a price question. If you are opening the Rocket Lawyer library regularly, stay put, because $125 is buying a lot and the agent line is incidental. If you signed up for the agent line and have not opened anything since, you have hired a legal department to sign for envelopes.

Switching From Rocket Lawyer in West Virginia, Line by Line

1. Choose the successor. West Virginia's eligibility list runs to four categories: an individual who lives in the state, a corporation formed here, another limited liability company, or a corporation or company from outside West Virginia that holds authority to do business inside it.
2. Open Form AAO. It is the Secretary of State's one-document route for updating an agent, an officer, or an address, and you mark your entity type at item 1.
3. Complete item 4, which is the section that reassigns the agent for service of process, and enter the new West Virginia office address.
4. Have the incoming agent sign. Their consent goes on the same page as the change, so no separate acceptance letter is needed and no cooperation is required from the agent you are leaving.
5. Send it to the Business & Licensing Division with $15. Mail works, and so does One Stop, the state's business portal, which adds a small charge for handling an online submission.
6. Once the state posts the update, pull your company up in the business search to confirm it, then cancel Rocket Lawyer.

Do not invert steps 1 and 6. Nothing catastrophic happens if you do, because the Secretary of State is positioned by law to take service for any West Virginia entity with no agent listed, so a summons always has somewhere lawful to go. What breaks is the arrangement you actually paid for: while the record is out of date, documents route to a company you have stopped using instead of to the portal you check.
