One rule governs this page, and the disclosure comes first so you can hold us to it. WV Registered Agent.org sells the rival product, $99 a year, and is openly trying to win the account. Free Is Free, and It Counts in Their Favor

Take one of Inc Authority's formation packages and the opening year of agent coverage is billed at zero. We went looking for the strings that usually come attached to an offer like that. No setup charge is stated. No shortened term is stated. No cancellation penalty is stated. A company two months old gets functioning coverage at no cost across exactly the period when cash is tightest, and that belongs above the objection rather than buried underneath it.

Year Two Is Not Written Down Anywhere

We went looking in July 2026. The homepage sales flow, the paid bundle breakdowns, and the frequently-asked list were each read end to end, and not one of them prints a second-year figure. A price that shows up on none of a company's public pages is, by long-standing habit in this trade, a price you hear at the payment screen or from a salesperson.

Typing a plausible amount into this paragraph would be easy and would wreck the reason the paragraph exists, so the blank stays a blank. The objection survives without it. This is a recurring line item that persists as long as the entity does, and you are being asked to take it on without seeing it.

An Unquoted Price for an Elective Role

West Virginia adds something to this that most states do not. The state's LLC provisions speak permissively about maintaining an agent, and a company that maintains none has the Secretary of State receive service in its place, by law rather than by arrangement. So an owner in this state who is staring at an unquoted renewal is not down to a single move. There are three.

Hold on until the number is spoken, then decide. Switch to somebody who prints the number in advance. Or remove the private designation altogether and let the state's default route do the delivering. We obviously prefer the second, since we are the second, but the third is real and we are not going to hide it. It is also not free of cost: papers routed through a state office travel at that office's pace to whatever address the state has for you, and that address sits on the public record where a determined person can read it. The value of a private agent is a staffed West Virginia office that scans the day the papers arrive, and our address on the filing rather than yours.

For the record, West Virginia's list of who can hold the role covers four kinds of party: a person whose residence is in the state, a corporation chartered here, a second limited liability company, and an entity formed elsewhere that has qualified to do business in West Virginia.

Most West Virginia owners already have a One Stop account, since the state requires annual reports to be filed there, and the same portal takes the AAO.

A quirk of a service that was never billed: there is no renewal invoice to prompt you, so the change gets postponed indefinitely and the free year quietly expires into the price nobody quoted. Set a date instead. Line up the replacement, file the AAO, confirm the record, then close the Inc Authority account. Nothing about your company becomes unreachable in the interim, because a West Virginia entity with no agent on file still has the Secretary of State authorized to take delivery for it.
